Eureka! The National Children's Museum
Eureka! is a unique place for families and groups to visit, where children aged 0 to 11 are inspired to learn all about themselves and the world around them by playing, imagining, experimenting and – above all – having fun, with the caring grown-ups in their lives.
Situated right next to Halifax railway station, the whole Eureka! site covers a whopping 13 acres, right in the heart of Halifax, nestled between the town centre and the impressive Beacon Hill. The site was formerly used as a railway yard and was derelict for many years prior to 1990, when Calderdale Council granted the leasehold to The Museum for Children on a 125-year lease.
Based on the North American model of children’s museums, Eureka! opened on 9 July 1992.
Education
Play and learning are at the heart of everything we do here at Eureka!, making us an ideal environment for play-based learning. We run regular, specially designed workshops for schools groups, bringing the curriculum to life whilst getting down to the important business of play!
